On September 2nd, NaMLab celebrated its 20 years anniversary by a festive event with opening remarks by Saxony’s State Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow, TU Dresden Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger, and Founding Managing Director Dr. Hans Harter. Keynote speeches were presented by Dr. Walter Weber of TU Wien and Dr. Thomas Rückes, CEO of FMC GmbH.
NaMLab gGmbH was founded on July 21, 2006, as the first scientific joint venture between TU Dresden and an industrial company, Qimonda Dresden GmbH. Since 2009, the research institute has been a wholly owned subsidiary of TU Dresden. The Free State of Saxony has provided institutional funding to NaMLab gGmbH since 2009.
NaMLab gGmbH conducts industry-oriented research with the overarching goal of developing new materials for future generations of microelectronic components and for applications in sensor technology. NaMLab bridges the critical gap in Saxony between materials research and component and system research. The research institution is internationally known and respected for its pioneering research on thin ferroelectric films based on hafnium oxide for applications in microelectronic memory technologies and related devices. In addition, it has made significant contributions to research on reconfigurable microelectronic devices and to the development of new materials for power electronics.
“Over the past 20 years, NaMLab gGmbH has successfully demonstrated that industry-oriented basic research in microelectronics can be both scientifically excellent and relevant to industry,” said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Mikolajick, scientific director of NaMLab gGmbH, during the commemorative ceremony.
